Please go to this page and get the
directions and explanation of our new land.
O'Siyo Honorable Chiefs, Elders, Members and
Friends
We are planning another Gathering at your new
Tribal land. A special thank you to your tribal secretary Laughing Eyes for
her donation to the tribe for the funds to make the down payment and make
this dream come true. We are truly blessed to have someone with so
much compassion for our cause. "Thank You Denise". Now we need all members
to participate in bringing this part of our future together. All we ask is
one weekend a month to get together and share with your brothers and sisters
and show your pride in the tribe. Just bring what you can to share. I know
this is a hard time for some, but your time doesn't cost anything and could
make a big difference in someone else's life. Go to the events page for
the directions to the land
http://www.theunitedcherokeepeople.com/Events.htm
We got a lot of work done over the last week end, thanks to our Elders
and members that showed up to work. Thank you Strong Grizzly Bear,
Little Walking Bear, Rolling Thunder, Tall Tree, Healing Star, Praying
Spirit, Grey Owl, Gentle Bear and Mr. Robert Cox.
We got a shallow well installed and we have water on the lower land.
That in it self was a big task. So now when anyone goes to camp out they
will have water. Power is coming in the next week or two as funds come
in to pay the Power Company their part and setting a temporary power
pole.
There will be another gathering
on September 18th. 19th. and 20th. for another awakening of the land to the
Spirits of our past and bring them on to the future with our Tribe. The Land
is in Millwood Georgia on Forks Road. It is called lot # 10, Satilla Bluff,
right on the banks of the Satilla River. We are also looking for a Name for
our land, your suggestions would be appreciated.
http://www.theunitedcherokeepeople.com/Events.htm
We are the Cherokee People and The
Creator has given us a path to follow. We will become strong and prosperous
as long as we don't get diverted from that path.
I hope to see everyone that can make
it to the land. This will be a great weekend for our People. Everyone can
chose their own camp sites and help in the clearing of their own site. We
will be drilling another well also and cutting a new path down to the
river, so everyone can enjoy a fresh dip, or go fishing if they want. Chief
Grey Owl has set our Sacred Fire pit and Circle and blessed it. We will be
blessing all the property on Saturday the 19th.
Remember All are welcome, so bring your
tent bring your Tee Pee bring your camper, but most of all bring your yard
tools, like chain saws. shovels, rakes, weed eaters and nippers. We can use
all the help we can get to make this land your home. Remember this is Tribal
land and that means it is for all members to use any time.
Here is a List of Items Needed Right
Now for The Tribal Land Development.
Everyone knows someone that knows
someone that has the items we need. And they also know who would be glad to
donate the items for our cause. The answer is always no if you don't ask. So
don't be afraid to ask, we all need to work together to make this Tribal
Land something that all of us can be proud of. Then when you want to get
away it will be there for you. Remember this is Tribal Land, and not for
anyone alone.
1. Temporary power pole
2. Storage building of some sort (used OK)
3. Bush hog work
4. DOT sand or gravel
5. Bulldozer work
6. Two well pumps and pressure tanks
7. Man power to clear under brush and burn debris.
8. Lumber of any kind but mostly pressure treated.
9. Concrete mix in the bag.
10. Last but not the least. Monetary Donations.
I hope every member of The
United Cherokee People and their friends will be able to come to this week
end of Worship and fellowship. This is going to be a great place for our
people to get back to the old ways and learn who they are and what we are
all about. Remember this is Tribal land and no one person will benefit more
than the other. It is for all the people to use at anytime. We are planning
around 4 acres of land for planting of the three sisters. If you work the
garden you will benefit from the crop when it comes in. Everyone is welcome
to plant what ever they like, only the crop will be shared with all who
participate in the planting and keeping it clear of weeds.

This is what we have been
working for at least 10 years to see come to our people. I hope everyone
takes advantage of this opportunity and participate in it.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --
President Barack
Obama aggressively
campaigned in New Mexico
hoping to capture the votes
of Native Americans.
Obama picked up endorsements
from the Navajo Nation, the
All Indian Pueblo Council
and Mescalero Apache Tribe.
Now he is making good on his
promises to work for them.
Tribal leaders from all over
New Mexico will soon make
their way to the White
House.
Obama just announced a plan
to host representatives of
all 564 federally recognized
tribes.
Some of the issues that are
of concern to New Mexico
tribal leaders include
access to health care,
roads, infrastructure and
jobs.
The Tribal Nations
Conference will take place
on Nov. 5.
"I think this is the day
every tribal leader has been
waiting for," said Zuni
Governor Norman Cooeyate
The Pueblo Governors will
meet before they fly to
Washington to come up with
common needs. However each
tribal leader has a list of
concerns unique to their
people.
In a statement released by
the White House, Obama said,
"This conference will serve
as part of an ongoing and
important process that I
value, and further
strengthen the nation to
nation relationship."

The list of decades-old grievances that
Native American nations have lodged
against the federal government is
lengthy and a source of great acrimony.
But when hundreds of tribal leaders
arrive Thursday in the nation's capital
for a summit with President Barack
Obama, the mood is expected to be mostly
upbeat, even jovial. Oneida Tribe of
Indians Chairman Rick Hill is expected
to attend the event.
Tribes that accuse Washington of
failing to provide adequate resources
for health, education and law
enforcement, as promised in treaties,
believe they finally have an ally in the
new commander in chief.
Obama earned immediate respect with
Native Americans by meeting with them
several times during last year's
campaign. One tribe, Montana's Crow
Nation, even adopted him. He's earned
further trust by appointing Native
Americans to key administration posts,
emphasizing greater consultation among
federal agencies and tribes, and
including a hefty increase in aid in his
budget and the economic stimulus
package, leaders say.
And it doesn't hurt that America's
first black president is a minority,
said David Wilkins, a professor of
American Indian studies at the
University of Minnesota.
"Tribal people are really looking to
Obama in part because of his charisma,
his oratorical skills, his racial
identity and because of the empathy and
knowledge he showed about indigenous
issues during the campaign and with some
of his recent appointments," said
Wilkins, a member of the Lumbee tribe in
North Carolina. "They have high hopes,
and I think his invitation to have them
come to (Washington) is a positive
step."
The summit will be the first since
President Bill Clinton invited Native
American leaders 15 years ago. All 564
federally recognized tribes have been
asked to send a representative.

Hau kola na tiyospaye (Hello friends & extended family),
Welcome to all new Circle members! Each section of the Circle of Nations
newsletter is written 'facing' one of the four sacred winds, beginning with the
east, then the south, west and finally the north. This is to honor the old
ways. It is to teach and to help us to focus and find the center. I have
designed the Native Circle website in the same spirit. I welcome you all to the
Circle....
EAST - Wiyohinyanpata - Yellow (Four Winds)
A few weeks ago we had our Mending Medicine Retreat and Circle of Nations Global
Community Reunion. As I sat at that dinner Friday night and looked around at
all the faces gathered together, I was deeply humbled and happy. On paper, it
says that I am the ‘Founder’ of the Circle of Nations community. In truth, all
I did was agree to take the journey. Oh sure, I’ve done a thing or two, but the
real ‘Founders’ of the Circle of Nations were sitting at that Friday night
dinner a few weeks back. Incredible people like Carley & Fr. Bob, Bill & Jan,
Phil & Jo Ann, Luella, Seamus, Morten, Jim & Mary, Sue, Van, Poco & Sir Charles,
Jim & Kathy, my sweet Peggy, and of course the esteemed Richard Seifried, just
to name a few. There were many others who I came to know for the first time
that weekend who are equally incredible human beings. What amazing people I get
to spend my life with! Now before I totally take myself out of the equation, I
will say that as I quietly observed the room that night, I saw the first
manifestation of my lifelong vision. People from countless backgrounds, from
all over the United States and the world, from Ireland to Norway, all gathered
in the spirit of peace, love and healing. My heart leapt in my chest, as it can
do when a dream hints at becoming reality. And yet, being a contemplative, my
eyes are rarely closed. I see the sickness of the world. The madness. The
brutality. The rage. And the sorrow. These things have weighed heavily on my
soul throughout my life. This I know, light washes away darkness - darkness
cannot wash away light. Water washes away fire - fire cannot wash away water.
And love washes away hate - hate cannot wash away love. If you are reading
this, I want you to know that, to me, you are united in spirit with those people
I sat with at our Friday night Mending Medicine Retreat dinner a few weeks ago.
You are part of us. We may never have seen your face, but you belong,
nonetheless. And when I think of all of you who are part of our Circle of
Nations Global Community, I see more than hope. I see the mending of the sacred
hoop of the nations of the world happening right before my eyes....
SOUTH - Itokagata - Red (Red Earth)
A word from Peggy....
Hello friends, family and all you wonderful people of peace in the Circle of
Nations.
Well we finally have our awesome Arkansas fall.. beautiful warm sunny days.
We just completed our Mending Medicine Reunion retreat and honestly words cannot
describe the love the healing and the laughter and warmth of those four days of
spirit connection. So I won’t even try, but if you were there you know.
I understand that many of you are connecting on myface or spacebook or something
like that!
I have so many feelings that I wish I could express……. the main one I think is
gratitude
Pure thanksgiving….. In a world torn with troubles, I see a community of people
with hope, love and vision. We have what it takes to put goodness and peace
back into this world and it only takes one honest four letter word, love. Not
the mushy gushy false romantic version, but the “give you my time, my care, my
life”… sacrificing love. The love that hurts a little, the love that can get
rid of ego and MY WAY to consider THE way. The love that listens, the love that
laughs and cries, the love that doesn’t count the cost and has courage to take a
risk. That passionate, wild, spontaneous, undaunted, radical, fearless love……
that will change the world……….that we all have in us, and that is what the
Circle of Nations Global Community is all about.
Wow, so much for nothing to say (lol)!

WEST - Wiyohpeyata - Black or Blue (We are STILL Here!)
Let me just come out and say it with gentle conviction: There is a right way,
and a wrong way, to conduct traditional American Indian ceremonies. In fact,
the way to conduct all of our traditional Indian rites is quite specific, exact
and complicated enough that it takes actual years to learn, if you are so called
by the Spirit to do so. Yes, it is true, ceremony is indeed all about
experiencing the Spirit. And it is also true that the Spirit can and does move
in many ways, even to the point where, on rare occasions, the protocol of the
ceremony changes. But don’t take that to mean that the Spirit is without form
or order. Indeed, it is that very order, those small details, the specifics of
how to conduct a given traditional ceremony which actually unlock its power. To
better understand this, imagine that a ceremony is like a very sharp knife. If
you know what you are doing with it, and have learned how to properly utilize
it, it can help to feed and nourish you. If you do not, you can badly hurt
yourself or somebody else with it. This is the way it is with all instruments
of power, whether they be a physical object or a ritual activity. It is for
this very reason that we insist that people who participate in a handful of our
traditional ceremonies resist the urge to start trying to conduct their own.
Such limited experience can be a recipe for disaster. The tragedy several
weeks ago in Sedona Arizona is a sobering example of what can happen when
someone learns just enough to be very, very dangerous. That so-called ‘sweat
lodge’ was the furthest thing from a traditional Inipi purification ceremony I
have ever heard of. My heartfelt prayers go out to all who were hurt by that
senseless, tragic event. And so.... just as it takes a Catholic Priest decades
to fully understand and appreciate the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of conducting ceremony,
so it is with our ancient traditional rites and those of us who are called to
serve our people in this way. Just wanted to share that from my heart to yours,
as a brother and a friend....
NORTH - Waziyata - White (Words of Wisdom)
a few thoughts....
Real ‘medicine’ happens when no one is looking....
Be kind, you may not get another chance....
This moment will never come again....
You can never give too much compassion....
May Wakantanka encircle you and yours with faith to believe, hope for the
future, and love for all....
As always, in the spirit of mending the sacred hoop of the nations of the world
