Nomadic craft in the Middle East and has left us with
little recorded information as to the origin of designs.
Generally, traders have effected the majority of
influence over patterns, color, and quality control.
From the earliest experimentation with lines and angles,
weavers have continually adapted and absorbed ideas from
other cultures to upgrade the craft.

Genuine Navajo Two Grey Hills All-Natural
Wool Rug by Louise Johnson 45-1/2" x 32-1/4"
This incredible hand woven traditional
rug is made entirely from genuine wool that
is not dyed or colored at all. The white, gray,
and black shades come from white and black
sheep. For the different shades of gray, the
black and white or cream wools are hand mixed
before being spun into yarn. This is a tight,
symmetrical rug with a warp of 10 strands/inch
and about 20 wefts per linear inch. All of the
wool for this rug has been hand carded, spun,
and woven by Navajo rug weaver Louise Johnson.
Louise is so old she was born before they
officially recorded the birth-date when
registering Native Americans. Because of this,
she is not even sure how old she is though she
can guess between 85 and 90. Unfortunately,
Louise will not be making many more rugs and we
were lucky to get this one. This gorgeous
genuine Navajo rug is 45-1/2" x 32-1/4" wide, or
about 3.75 feet by 2.67 feet.

Navajo Crystal Weaving Rug 34" by 45"
This is a Crystal Design taken from the times
of J.B. Moore. Hand woven the traditional old
fashioned way, this Navajo made rug was
masterfully created from genuine all natural
wool. There's a small amount of fraying and
wear, but it is truly the real deal. The
southwestern Crystal design was created from
white, red, brown, and black wool that was
colored with dyes made from natural vegetation
indigenous to the Navajo Indian reservation.
This crystal Navajo rug is a true one
of a kind collectors item! Measuring 34 inches
by 43 inches this work of art was obtained via
one of the most reputable auction houses in the
Southwest. J. B. Moore had a fondness for
Oriental weaving and possibly introduced Eastern
rug patterns to the local weavers. An
explanation given by the Navajo Rug Repair
Company, experts in cleaning and repairing
Oriental and Navajo weaving, lends credence to
this theory. They state, one story about the
design origin is that it was derived from the
labels on flour sacs sold to Navajos in the
early years. This author has not been able to
find any flour sac labels that show anything
like this design.
